Persuasive writing is a form of writing where the writer attempts to convince or persuade the audience to adopt a particular point of view or take a specific action through the development of logical arguments and a cohesive summary. As English teachers, we strive to equip our students with the skills to effectively communicate their thoughts, opinions, and ideas.

As children mature as writers, it’s important to give them the opportunity to write using a variety of formats. Persuasive writing helps students formulate specific reasons for their opinions, and provides an opportunity to research facts related to their opinions.

Martin Luther King Jr.'s "I have a dream" is a powerful example of persuasive writing, as he appeals to his audience's emotions, logic, and sense of justice. Another case is that of harvey milk a gay activist who with his persuasive writing touched thousands of hearts and managed to move many masses to defend the rights of the LGBTI + community.

Persuasive writing is a vital skill that has numerous benefits, including effective communication, influencing others, critical thinking, building confidence, career opportunities, social impact, personal growth, academic success, business success, and civic engagement. By incorporating this text into their teaching, English teachers can help students develop essential skills in persuasive writing, empowering them to make a positive impact on the world.
